Term 2 Parents Newsletter

Room 11 Papakura Central School 2 May 2017 Dear Parents and Caregivers Welcome back to Term 2, I hope you and your family had an enjoyable and safe Easter and holiday break. Here is some information about what is happening in Room 11 in Term 2. Homework: Homework will follow the same format as Term 1.  On Thursday homework is shared,   spelling words tested and  the practise maths sheet will be marked.  Spelling words and a Maths practise sheet will be given out on Friday.  Reading is to be completed each school night. Can the form at the back of the Homelinks book please be filled in and signed by an adult, (this will often include filling in the title of the book).  If your child does not bring a book home from school can they please read the book they have taken out from the  school library or a book from home. We visit the library on Thursday so can library books please be sent to school on this day. Hats, Uniform and Drink Bottles: School hats are not compulsory in Term 2, however school hats may be worn if your child wishes to.  Please send your child to school wearing or with their school polar fleece each day as the weather is changeable. Please check that all jumpers, rain coats and shoes are clearly named to ensure they can be returned to the rightful owner if misplaced.  Drink bottles with water may still be kept in the class if your child wishes. Fitness and Sports: This term Counties Manukau Sports will be taking Fundamental Skills each Monday for half an hour.  The coaches will teach children throwing, catching, leaping and jumping techniques while playing fun games.  We are very fortunate to have this free programme.  Fitness will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 15 minutes.  The children will practise skills being learnt in Fundamental Skills. Topic: We will be continuing the Arts Through The Decades Topic from week 1 - 4.  At the three Way conferences in week 5 we will have a display of some of the learning we have completed for you to view. The Class Blog and Studyladder: Students will continue to be able to access their class Studyladder account to practise skills in Mathematics, Reading and Spelling.  Access details including your child’s username and password are glued into their Homelinks book. Please take time to view the class blog which shows some of the learning we have/ are doing in class.  When you have viewed the work you can leave a positive comment about the work, by clicking the comment button attached to the work. I endeavour to add work each week.  Family members who live in different towns can also view the blog and comment.  We do ask that all comments are positive and appropriate for a class blog. Log in details are:  http://pcspaterson.blogspot.co.nz Contact: If you have any questions or would like to contact me please pop into the classroom before or after school, (I am unavailable on Thursday mornings, Monday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons as I am in meetings) or email me on c.paterson@papakura-central.school.nz.
